Bareback Riding
Bareback riding at Justin’s Place is a method we use with our participants for a variety of reasons. Bareback riding is done with a thick pad to provide some grip for our kids and a little support for our horses. When our goal is purely sensory input, connection with the horse, and enjoyment - some of our participants ride every in this manner! Other times, we utilize a bareback lesson a a new challenge for our kiddos or to switch up their experience. Riding without a saddle requires more attention and focus on balancing as the rider has less support and typically no stirrups. Additionally, bareback riding creates more of a connection between horse and rider. Riders can feel the warmth of their horse, their horse’s breathing, and they get more direct movement in their own bodies as a result from the movement of the horse!
