Interview with Lauren, Program Director
How would you describe Justins Place to someone who wants to understand what it's about?
Justin's Place is a therapeutic riding center located in Wilmore. It is a very special place for extraordinary kiddos. They tailor every single lesson to each kiddo's individual needs.
Tell me a story about one of your favorite days at Justin's Place.
I had been teaching lessons all day, and they had all seemed to go not to plan. Nothing bad had happened, but the lessons hadn't gone the way I expected them to. That evening for my final lesson, there was the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen in my entire life. Everyone seemed to have a wave of peace wash over them as soon as we saw the sunset.
Describe why you love your favorite animal at Justin's Place.
Bodi is my favorite horse at Justin's Place. She can teach each kiddo so much. If they need more support while riding, she provides that. If a kiddo begins to become more independent, she can also allow them to experiment with riding techniques, having patience for many mistakes.
Charlotte is my favorite barnyard animal. She is so sweet and tender-hearted. She loves every kiddo and loves the treats they give her! She is so gentle and provides space for every kiddo's needs.
Describe why you choose to volunteer.
I began volunteering during my freshman year at Asbury. I wanted to be involved in as many activities as I could, but especially with anything in the therapeutic riding world. I saw Justin's Place advertised, and decided to go to the training! I signed up for my first session and never looked back since!
