Pumpkin Themed Lessons!
It’s pumpkin season at we are all about it at Justin’s Place!! Our first week riders collected letters to spell “pumpkin”. This served as a good review of skills and intro for new riders. The letters are small so it gave us a good read on their fine motor skills. It’s simple enough to be modified to find anywhere from 1-7 letters as set up by the instructor. It served as a great review for halting, looking ahead, and steering if appropriate.
Our second week consisted of collecting tiny pumpkins ‘hidden’ around the arena and bringing them back to a central location. Week three offered a barrel pattern around three large pumpkins! Week four is a fun directive game where participants pick a lane to ride in and follow the direction written on that side of the pumpkin. Our last week of fall two traditionally has been a trick or treat lesson! We hide goodies under cones that riders can ride around and collect to take home.
By offering some additional/themed props for our lessons, it keeps things interesting and riders engaged! Then of course the BEST thing about pumpkin props are. . . we can feed them to our animals once we’re done with them!
