New Run-In Sheds
Run-In Sheds have a MASSIVE impact on the health of our horses and our budget! Keep reading to find out how…
Horse Health
In the summer, run-in sheds provide shade and degrees of difference in temperature for our horses. Having a much older herd (some with chronic health issues), shade is SO important! Conditions like heaves (similar to asthma) are made worse with excessive heat. In addition, less heat means less sweating means less flies! In the winter, horses lose weight faster when they are cold or shiver. Wet cold causes this most significantly. By providing shelter through run-in sheds, we are insuring our herd is out of the elements and able to hold onto their body weight more effectively during winter months!
Budget
Other than the many benefits for our horses, it affects our pasture health and ultimately our budget. By consolidating commonly used areas to a run-in shed, we reduce mud and improve the growth of healthy grass. This means less hay needed. This means reduced cost and labor. If our horses always have shelter, the need for blankets and maintenance of blankets is much less. An average horse blanket runs around $250! Overall, healthier horses cost less!
Thank You To Our Donors
We are SO grateful to have been gifted a donation covering most cost of our two new run-in sheds. A big thank you to The Murry Foundation! Justin’s Place work is only possible because of donors support. Our horses are able to do their job mor effectively because of people like you!
