Teamwork Through Vaulting

The additional of vaulting at Justin’s Place has shown GREAT value in regards to teamwork and integration of groups with a variety of abilities! Vaulting is known as gymnastics or dance on horseback. In order to do vaulting, participants have to first learn flexibility and strength skills on mats and barrels. These skills include standing and sitting balance, core strength, posture, upper body positioning, wrapped legs and more. Often times, these skills can only be learned through watching other vaulters, gaining feedback from your peers and playing games with your peers to solidify these skills. There is LOTS of prep work done before a skill is ever tried on the horse! The greatest accomplishment for our kiddos has been trying something they were initially challenged or frightened by and being cheered on by their coaches and peers. It’s even better when they get to do it with a friend!
