Meet Peanut!
After our first year of programming, we were ready to add some new members to the herd so we can serve more kiddos! Peanut was purchased from a local farm and I’d like to share why we chose him!
We have several younger children (5-8) who are very small in stature and weight and several children who are fearful of heights. By adding a pony to our program we are able to meet those kiddos’ needs!
Peanut is an ideal candidate as he is incredibly calm and patient during ground work, a little lazy under saddle, and is strong and sound enough to carry a variety of riders. He is around 4 years old which means he will have a long career as a therapy horse. Compared to a horse, a pony has a shorter, choppier movement with their walk and trot. This provides more direct, bouncy input for our riders they often enjoy!
He is about half way between the size of our minis and full size horses. See this picture of him next to our minis for a size reference!
We look forward to sharing more about new herd members as they arrive!
As always in Expectation of Great Things,
Allie
