What tack is used in vaulting?

DISCLAIMER: Tack pictured is not in use and is not applied correctly or completely. *

Vaulting can be described as gymnastics or dance on horseback! We can’t wait to add vaulting to our programs at Justin’s Place! One of the biggest differences between vaulting and therapeutic riding is the equipment used. Shown here is a vaulting surcingle. This is heavy duty and secured to the horse just like a saddle is. There is a large piece of foam that will go underneath the surcingle to provide more padding and comfort for the horse. Beneath that will be a vaulting pad, similar to the one show in this picture. A vaulting pad is thick and more flat that the one shown. This serves as a cushion for the horse and rider.

Unlike riding, the vaulter has no reins or connection to the horse’s head. The horse wears side reins that connect to the surcingle and a lunge line that connects them to the lunger who is controlling their speed. More info and pictures to come! Justin’s Place is slowly acquiring required tack for vaulting and can’t wait to share more!
