Instructor Skills

When thinking about the elements of a “good” therapeutic riding lesson it comes down to 2 things- Was it safe? & Was it fun? If the answer to those 2 questions are yes, then the instructor has succeeded! However, there is SO much more that goes into preparing and delivering a therapeutic riding lesson. PATH Intl provides specific skills and recommendations to be incorporated into lessons. When teaching new instructors, we assess if these skills are provided to our participants. Check out this list of skills we are always striving to provide in lessons:

  • Specific, positive praise

  • Appropriate level of challenge

  • Teaching to variety of learning styles

  • Breaking down skills

  • Providing “why’s” for each instruction

  • Enthusiastic

  • Flexible
