What is “2 Point”?
If you’ve observed a few lessons at Justin’s Place, more than likely you’ve heard the term, “2 Point”. Traditionally, 2 Point is the position which riders take while jumping and allows for 2 points of contact (each of their legs) to balance on. 2 point is a fun, challenging skill to learn for all ages, disciplines, and abilities. Our riders are taught to 2 point while walking over poles to allow their horse more freedom of movement to step over the pole. It’s great for task sequencing. When participants are approaching a pole they have to 1. Shorten their reins 2. Look UP over the pole 3. Place their hands forward 4. Push their heels down 5. Lift their bottom out of the saddle… and then BALANCE! Once their horse has stepped over the pole they 1. Sit their bottom down 2. Relax their legs 3. Bring their hands back 4. Loosen their reins. It takes a ton of coordination and motor planning to complete this single skill. Check out this kiddos expression while rocking his 2 point over his poles!
