Let’s get weird.
When it comes to horse training, the “weirder” the better.
What we mean by that is… make everything go wrong, crooked, silly. Walk swinging your arms around, sing, whistle, squeal, drop brushes, throw brushes, ride backwards, clap your hands!! Justin’s Place staff can often be found doing “weird” things while training our horses. This is generally referred to as desensitization. The idea is that there will be nothing our horses haven’t seen or experienced! If a kid decides to throw their body in an unusual way or stims with a loud squeal… we want our horses to view it as no big deal.
Shown in this picture is mock lessons with our newer horses. Our equine trainer, Presley is laying on a ball in front of Elsa.
