Creation of the Garden

As I shopped and selected plants and materials for the garden, I am learning SO much! The thing that has stood out to me the most is this-

Shopping locally is not only good for our local economy and business owners, but it is often higher quality products and benefits the consumer as well!

We purchased fence boards for the above ground bed at The Thoroughbred Center. Many people have raved about the amazing quality of topsoil purchased from Landscapers Corner. The traits of the plants from For Petes Sake Farm are unmatched and the owner operates with the health of our community in mind. Check out some pictures from the garden’s first days in May & June:

We repurposed pallets that will serve as a Justin’s Place sign and a lattice for pole beans.

We focused on building the boxes first and then filling them with quality soil to plant in.

Now the lattice is complete with a sign, custom mural, and plants!

Then we built a walkway, filled the ground with wood chips and let the plants do their thing!

These easily accessible, lower beds have herbs in the front to touch and smell, a tomato (left) to grow up a lattice on the exterior, and planted seeds in the back for cut and come again flowers.

What a great set up we have to enter our farm through this sensory rich garden! This space provides incredible textures, sights, smells, and tastes for our participants and their families! If you haven’t seen it yet in person Schedule a Visit today!

In Expectation of Great Things,
